Lawrence Carlton Brewster was born on Oct 13, 1923 in Portland, Cumberland, Maine, United States, son of Lawrence Carlton Brewster (1899–1974) and Mary Elizabeth Casey (1900–1971).

Lawrence married Marilyn Ann McGinty on Feb 14, 1953 in Maine. Their known son was David Michael Brewster (1956–2014).
