Biography

Frederick Brien was born in 1828 in Middlesex, England. He was the son of Lucius Brien and Jane Harvey. The year of his birth is estimated by his age at the time if the 1841 census, when he was 13. ^[1]

He was registered with his family in the 1851 census when he was 23 years old, still living at Bethnal Green in the Hackney district.In this census he was listed as Jerdas, which appears to have been his nickname at that time, as all the facts indicate that this person was indeed Frederick, whose name does not appear on this census.^[2]

Frederick married Mary Poyser at St. John of Jerusalem Church in South Hackney, London, England on March 11, 1855 ^[3] They had four sons between 1855 and 1861.

Frederick emigrated to Australia in 1857 with his wife Mary and son Frederick.^[4]

Research Notes It is believed Frederick abandoned his wife and family. Some family suggest he went to New Zealand, according to Ancestry Family Trees. No death record can be found in Australia (Victoria BDM) or New Zealand and his death is not listed in the GRO Death Index or U.K. FBMD. I have therefore entered his death as after 1861, the year of the birth of his youngest son as this is the last certain record of him that I can find. As there is no record I think it is safe to presume he died in Australia or New Zealand.
