Gladys was born to Edwin Brind and Mrs Brind nee Workman and her birth was registered^[1][2]during the second quarter of 1882 in the district of Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales, United Kingdom.

The banns of marriage^[3]for Gladys, spinster of Christchurch, Newport and widower Thomas Phillips, widower of the parish of St. Brides Wentloog were published for the first, second and third time on 9, 16 and 23 September 1906 respectively.

Gladys married^[4]Thomas Phillips, eighteen years her elder, on 2 October 1906 at the Parish Church, Coedkernew, Monmouthshire.
