Hannah Brooks was born about 1768, the daughter of James and Elizabeth (Bathrick) Brooks. (Birth year based on her age at time of her death.)
She married Peter Page or Paige in Walpole, New Hampshire, in 1785.[1] Her sister, Sibil Brooks, married Peter's brother Elijah. They lived in Dewey's Gore, Vermont, at the time of the 1790 census.[2] In March of 1792, the family - including the couple and their 3 children - moved to Hardwick, Vermont. In History and Genealogy of the Page Family from the Year 1257 to the Present,[3] Charles N. Page writes of this time that they traveled by
"drawing them on a hand sled over the deep snow while he wore snow shoes. His youngest son, Jabez, who was pulled along in a wooden bread trough, afterwards became a member of the Vermont legislature. Peter made the first clearing in town and was a pioneer settler there, enduring great hardships in that wild northern section, far from civilization."
They had 9 children:
John O., 1781-1839
Levi, 1787-1873 marr. Priscilla Ingalls
Betsey, b. 1789; marr. John Dana
John C., 1791-1835; marr. Rhoda Smith
Elihu S., 1793-1886; marr. Phebe Mitchell
Aurey or Amy, 1795-1864; marr. Enoch Smith
Peter, 1796-1862
Thomas John, 1800-1884; marr. Mercy Ward
James, 1802-1880; marr. Eliza Sweet
Hannah died in 1840 when she was 72 years old. She is buried at the Sanborn Cemetery in East Hardwick, Vermont.[4]
