My grandpa was the youngest of many children. His mother died when he was just a toddler. My grandmother would explain to me that this had a big impact on his relationship with his siblings. He was particularly close with his sisters, with the oldest ones being like little mothers. The family remained close throughout their lives and seemed very fond of each other, always greeting each other with open arms and wide smiles.
