Note N2035Dear Bertha, Cairo, O Jan 2, 1929 I suppose you will be surprised to get a letter from me but just imagine my surprise when the girls got a Xmas card from you. What are you doing down at Lexington? Mr & Mrs E. W. Thomas well I guess that sounds like you are married. Well congratulations kid and wish you good luck. When did all this happen and are you living on a farm or in town? Have you had the flu yet? The girls and I both had it. Irene had a terrible time with her ear she had a gathering and had to have two Drs for her. The one Dr came and lanced her ear. Our Dr was afraid of mastoids. We sure had an awful time with her. Norma Jeane was sick a week. And so was I. I have been out of work almost three weeks now. We always get a vacation around this time. I will tell you what Irene got for Xmas, a doll, tinker toys, a slate with letters and figures on it, a rubber apron, two books, a couple handkerchiefs, and beads. Norma Jeane got a doll, beads to put on a string, dishes also Irene, apron and a book. Otto sent them a check for .00. My neice June got a house. Her Daddy made it. It has four rooms in it. She is saving her money to buy some furniture for it. They cost .00 a room. Irene wants me to tell you that her and Norma Jeane has a bank. Norma " (Jeane's) bank is full and I just had Irene's emptied. My father and mother also had the flu. Did your folks have it? Everybody around here had it and so many old people dying from pneumonia. Must close. Excuse this hen scratching. Dessie Siegfried Box 136 Cairo Ohio P. S. The girls said hello and they often speak of you.
