Biography

David was born about 1855.

He married Isabella Fortune Hay during 1877 in New Zealand [1]

David died in 1936 and on 5 Sep 1936 he was buried in Oamaru Old Cemetery, Oamaru, Waitaki District, Canterbury, New Zealand. He shares the plot with wife Isabella & son David, while the cemetery record states that he was Presbyterian [2][3]

"OBITUARY
MR DAVID BROWN
The death occurred yesterday. after a long illness, of Mr David Brown, manager of the job printing department of The ‘Evening Star’ Co. Ltd. Deceased, who came to New Zealand from Scotland as a lad of eight years, lived with relatives in Timaru and was educated there, afterwards entering into the service of the 'Timaru Herald ’ Company. About 20 years ago he came to Dunedin to take up his position with the ‘Star’ Company, and carried, out his duties till about a year ago, when illness overtook him. A prominent and enthusiastic bowler, the late Mr Brown was a popular member of the Dunedin Bowling Club, and was well known amongst Otago players. For some years he was a member of the committee of the Dunedin Master Printers’ Association, and was president for a term. Of a quiet and unassuming disposition, he was held in the highest esteem by his many friends. Deceased is survived by his widow." [4]
