Obituary

7 June 1934 - The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate

"WILLIAM GEORGE BROWNE

"After lying unconscious since Wednesday of last week, at noon, Mr. W. G. Browne, of 'Rosedale,' Mungery, passed peacefully away shortly after 9 a.m. on Saturday.

"On Tuesday of last week he called at his son's place, adjoining his property, and complained of terrible pains in the head. He was immediately hurried home; Dr. Sutherland was called to his bedside, and everything possible was done for him, but it was felt from the first that it was a hopeless case as, during the past twelve months, he had suffered two light strokes. The deceased, who was born at Rockley, was 61 years of age, and had resided in the district for over 20 years.

"The news of his death caused a gloom over the town and district, as he was widely known and greatly respected by all.

"Deceased took a great interest in the P.P. Board of which he was a member for nine years, and rarely missed a meeting. His wise deliberations and splendid knowledge of stock made him a very useful member of the Board, and in his position he carried out his duties without fear or favor.

"Besides a sorrowing widow, one son, Alfred George, of Mungery, and one daughter, Fanny (Mrs. Bell, Lithgow), are left to mourn his sad loss.

"The funeral took place on Sunday morning, and was one of the largest seen in Narromine. A short service was held in the Church of England by Rector J. S. Richards, who afterwards conducted the burial service. A large number of the brethren of Narromine Masonic Lodge, of which the deceased was a member, preceded the cortege from the cemetery gates, and the W.M., Wor. Bro. H. Bowden Fletcher, read the burial service. Members of the G.U.O.O.F. Lodge also marched, and their service was read by Bro. T. Tomlins.

"Many beautiful wreaths were placed on the coffin.

"All members of the Dubbo P.P. Board attended the funeral, and many other Dubbo residents motored out to pay their respects to one of the whitest men that ever lived."[2]
