David Bruce was born about 1801 in Lanarkshire, Scotland, parents James Bruce and Isabella Haddow (uncertain).
At Glasgow on 26/9/1829, David was convicted of highway robbery and sentenced to transportation for 14 years (he may have had previous convictions).
He left Sheerness on 5th April 1830 on the 'Marquis of Huntley' and arrived in Sydney on 21st August, 1830. He was initially assigned to W F Bell at Richmond, NSW[1] and gained a Ticket of Leave at Paterson, NSW in 1836[2].
David Bruce married widowed Sarah (Rose) Pearson in 1847, the marriage recorded in the register of the CofE parishes of Alnwick, Butterwick, Clarence Town, Middlehope, Raymond Terrace and Seaham[3].

They lived on a property at Seaham called 'Rose Hill'.
Sarah's death and burial time and place are uncertain but it seems she died around 1855 aged about 45.
David Bruce began a relationship with his step-daughter Sarah Ann Pearson and they had nine children registered in NSW[5]:

They married in 1877, just before David's death. The marriage was registered at Clarence Town, NSW[6].
David Bruce died in November, 1877, his death registered at Clarence Town[7].
