Herman was born in 1870. He was the oldest son of Samuel Bruder and Margaretha Mauch, born in Switzerland. The family emigrated to the US when he was young and settled in Pennsylvania.
He married Mary Ann Bell, who was born in Northern Ireland, in 1898.[1][2]Their children were:

Ruth Bruder (b 1907)
