In 1893 he married Annie Maria Metson, daughter of Mr. R. Metson, curator of Temuka Domain.

He was bandmaster of the Temuka Volunteer Band for 13 years.

He passed away 5 March 1938 age 72 at his residence in Temuka, and is buried at Temuka Cemetery with wife Annie Maria. The other surviving kin were:
