Biography

Lavinia was born in 1911. She was the daughter of Bernard Buersmeyer and Lavinia Richter. She passed away in 1998.

Obituary

Buersmeyer Sister Mary Lavinia Buersmeyer, SSND, 86, St. Louis, formerly of Jefferson City, died Monday at Fairfield Manor Nursing Home, North St. Louis County.

She was born Sept. 2, 1911, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Bernard and Lavinia Buersmeyer.

She entered the congregation of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1929 and professed her final vows in 1938. She received a bachelor’s degree in geography from St. Louis University in 1947.

She taught elementary education for 42 years throughout the states of Missouri and California, including schools in St. Louis, Tulare, Calif. She also was an administrator for 19 years in school in the states of Missouri and California. She did community service for three years in the state of California before returning to Missouri. She then did community service for 10 years at the School Sisters of Notre Dame Motherhouse, St. Louis, until her retirement in 1994.

Survivors include two sisters, Lucille Thomas and Salome Kaiser, both of Jefferson City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the School Sisters of Notre Dame Motherhouse Chapel, St. Louis. Burial will be in the Motherhouse Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
