Son of Frans Buijs and Johanna Hendrika van den Berg[1]
Hendrik's family lived on Zeedijk in Amsterdam. He is included with his parents Frans and Johanna Hendrika and his siblings Margrieta (1851), Franciscus (1854), David (1856), Marritje (1858), Bartha (1860) and Louisa (1862) in the bevolkingsregister 1853 - 1863. His birth date is recorded as June 8 1849 in Amsterdam.
Hendrik is listed again at Vinken 11 in Amsterdam in the 1874 - 1893 bevolkingsregister with his wife Hendrika Gerendina Kitsz and their son Frans (1875). He was a schippersknecht (ship worker - probably a sailor). Here his birth date is recorded as July 31 1849.
The most complete listing of his children is found in a later bevolkingsregister: Frans Johannes (1875) Marinus (1878), Johann Gotlieb Heinrich (1888), Frans Hendrik (1889), Margaretha (1892), Anna Dorothea Sophia (1895), Arie (1897), Louisa Gerarda Johanna (1897). His wife was Dorothea Sophia Berring. At this point he was a "los werkman".
