William was born in 1828. He is the son of Esau Burford and Charlotte Teakle
Obituary - 13 Nov 1895 DEATH OF MB. W. BURFORD. Mr. William Burford, who was injured on Sunday by being thrown out of a vehicle in Milner-street, Hindmarsh, died at his residence, Carrondown, early on Wednesday morning. He sustained concussion of the brain, resulting from a fracture of the base of the skull, and never regained consciousness. He was 68 years old, and arrived in South Australia with his parents 55 years ago. For a number of years he was engaged in agricultural pursuits, and for about 20 years was employed on the railways. For some years he was in the loco works in the carriage department . and latterly has been in charge of the railway-crossing at Coglin-street, on the Port railway. He was twice married. His second wife survives him, and he leaves two sons (Mr. Ashby Burford, of Mindoora, and Mr, Hugh Burford, who is in Melbourne), two married daughters (Mrs. C. Wooldridge and Mrs. J. L. Tonkin) and one unmarried, and eight grandchildren. He did not take part in public affairs. He was quiet and unobtrusive and highly respected; The funeral will take place at the West terrace Cemetery on Thursday afternoon. [1]
