Biography

The son of William Burkert and Mabel (Reece) Burkert, William Burkert was born in Evansville, Indiana[citation needed] in 1905, residing there with his family.[1][2] William married Josephine F. App (1905-1990), the daughter of William Sydney Weisheimer App and Elizabeth A. Schwegman, making their home in 1930 in Evansville, where William worked as a clerk at a printing company and Josephine worked as an assistance cashier at a bank.[3] In 1940, they home was in Newburgh, Indiana.[4]

William Burkert registered for the World War II draft when he was 35, registering in Evansville, Indiana on October 16, 1940.[5] He stated that he lived with his wife on Jennings Street in Newburgh, Indiana and and that he worked with Burkert Walton Company in Evansville. Robert was described as 5'8" tall and 185 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Robert enlisted in the United States Army on February 23, 1942, enlisting at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana.[6] He was discharged on February 3, 1945.

After the war, William returned to Evansville, where he worked in the printing business owned by his brother.[7] William Burkert passed away in Jefferson County, Kentucky[8][9] at the age of 74 and is buried Saint Joseph Catholic Church cemetery in Evansville, Indiana.[10]
