Research Notes
Unfortunately as Avis only appears with her foster family (as a Visitor or Nurse child) it has been difficult to determine who her parents are. She gives her father's name as George Burn when she marries, but it is possible that she has used the first name of her foster father George Goldsmith, substituting her surname which always appears as Burn.
There are 3 possible combinations of Burn/Nicholson marriage on FreeBMD.
1857 in Pancras, John Burn marrying Ann Golding Nicholson or Fanny Caroline Ann Pinnick[9]
John Burn, Surgeon, son of William Burn, Inn Keeper, married Ann Golding Nicholson, widow of Dartford Kent, daughter of John Sears, Gentleman on 12 February 1857 in St Pancras Parish Chapel, Camden, England.[10]
1860 in Stepney, Robert Burn marrying Elizabeth Nicholson or Mary Ann Constable.[11] Robert Burn, in fact, married Mary Ann Constable [12]
1871 in Shoreditch Joseph Burn marrying Amelia Mary Nicholson or Fanny Coleman[13]
Joseph Burn (age 22), Carpet planner, son of William Burn, Publican, married Amelia Mary Nicholas (age 24), daughter of William Nicholson, Salesman, on 26 August 1871 in St Mark, Shoreditch, Hackney, England.[14]. Amelia dies, age 32 in 1880[15] Joseph dies, age 32 in 1881Joseph Burn's death (age 32) was registered in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter of 1881 in the Shoreditch district.[16]
Based on this evidence I have presumed that her parents are Joseph and Amelia, there being no other suitable candidates, and created profiles for them.Wheatley-2390 10:09, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
