David was the son of Moses and Mercy Harmon. Moses moved his family to Maine where David was reared, he joined the Revolutionary War in Captain John Spillings Company in the Ebenezer Francis Regiment. He enlisted on January 20, 1777, and arrived at Bennington and engaged in battle on August 16, 1777. He served over two years and achieved the rank of Private in Captain Benjamin Larabee's Company.
