John Bursley and Elizabeth Howland married in December 1673, their family record noted in the Barnstable town records.[1][2]
Will & Second Wife?
It appears that John married, secondly, another woman named Elizabeth.
The will of John Bursley named his wife Elizabeth; sons Joseph, John, Jabez; five daughters Mary, Joannah, Abigail, Elizabeth and Temperance (she being weak). Temperance to have an additional sum of money, and "liberty in the house with her mother in law." Also, "since I have given my said son Joseph a preferable portion to my other sons that he should be kind to his Mother in Law and provide for her and not let her want any thing ... for her in her old age if what I have given [being?] my will be not sufficient for her."[3]
