Richard was born on 4 December 1873, in Fishersgate Sussex, and is the son of George and Elizabeth Burtenshaw, who were both from Brighton.[1]
He married Charlotte Rachel Caroline Williams in 1898 in Steyning, Sussex. [2]
During the 1911 census they were living in Hove. [3]
He immigrated to New Zealand in 1913 aboard the Ionic with his wife, Rachel, and their two children. [4]
He lived in Auckland and worked for the Auckland Education Board, staying at the Technical College.
He enlisted for WW1 in 1917.
According to the electoral roll, in 1935, Richard and his wife were living in Roberton Road, in Avondale. [5]
Richard died, aged 78, on 25 November 1950. [6] He is buried at the Waikumete Cemetery, in Glen Eden, Auckland. He is buried with his wife. [7]
