Samuel was born about 1712 in Antigua. He was son of Major Samuel Byam and his wife, Elizabeth Ann Clarke. [1] He was sent to England to be educated and in June 1721 started at Westminster school aged just 9. [1]
On the 9th of December 1735 at St Paul's Cathedral in the City of London he married Grace Warner, [2] daughter of Edward Warner of Eltham in Kent and sometime a member of the Council of Antigua, and his wife, Elizabeth Scott. [1]
Samuel made his will in London on the 6th of February 1737 when intending to return to Antigua. He left Grace £300 a year above the money settled on her at her marriage, and £6000 to his daughter, Phillis, if she were his only daughter. His residuary legatee was to be his son, if any. [3] It seems that Grave was pregnant at the time.
He passed away in Antigua on the 13th of January 1738. [1]
