Biography
William was born in St Kilda in 1896, the son of Patrick Byrne and Elizabeth Ashton. [1]
In 1916 he enlisted in the Army. [2]
In April 1918, while on leave, aged 21, he married Norah Sullivan (1898-1918) in St Francis Parish Church, Stratford, London, Essex, UK. She died in October 1918.
In 1921, in Victoria, he married Vera Annie Gardiner (1899-1977). [3]
They had 11 children (from grave headstone).

On 23 April 1940 he again enlisted for service. [4]
His wife, Vera, died in 1975, and he passed away in 1977, aged 80 [80y 5m 30d]. [5] His death reg. gives his parents as Robert and Elizabeth Ashton...
Vera and William are buried in the Frankston Cemetery.
