Biography

Abundantia Cafarella was baptized at Lipari, Provincia di Messina, Kingdom of Sicily, 23 September 1609, daughter of Mario Cafarella and Francesca di Patti; her sponsor was Ambrosio Cesario.[1] She was buried at Lipari, 15 April 1690, aged about 82. "Abundantia Cafarella filia qm Mari Cafarella et Franciscie di Patti etatis sue annoru 82 circater."[2] She married at Lipari, about 1637, Vincenzo Benenati, who was born at Lipari, about 1605, son of Ambrosio Benenati and Antonia d'Agostino; and died at Lipari, after 29 September 1680.[3]

  2. Francesca Benenato, bap. 5 April 1640; sponsor was Filippo Parisi di Giuseppe. She m. Lipari, ca. 1656, Placido Barbuto, bap. Lipari, 4 Sept. 1638, son of Diego Barbuto and Angela di Rosa; sponsor was Maestro Coletta Calderaro, di Cola Francesco Calderaro. He was bur. Lipari, 28 March 1690, ae. ca. 50: "Placidus Barbuto, filius qm Didaci Barbuto, et [left blank], etatis sue 50 annorum."
  3. Domenico Benenato, bap. 19 Sept. 1641; sponsor was Andrea Durna. He m. (1) Angela Moleti. Dominincu Benenati, son of Vincenzo Benenati and Francisca [sic] Cafarella, m. (2) Lipari, 14 June 1673, by Reverendo Don Angelo Vitagliano and Reverendo Don Placido Costa, Benedicta Pirera, dau. of Michele Pirera and Lucretia di Lipari. Reverendo Abbatte Don Placido d’Oddo approved dispensations for third and fourth degree consanguinity that year in Rome. The witnesses were Bartolomeo Artesci and Diacono Don Bartolomeo Bongiorno. Benedetta Pirera was bap. Lipari, 9 Dec. 1646, dau. of Michele Pirera and Lucretia di Lipari; sponsor was Pietro Pirera. She was bur. Lipari, 26 May 1713: "Benedicta Pirera Benenati, mater Ant.ni Benenati, etatis circiter 55 annorum." On 27 Oct. 1672, the Procurer Fiscal presented to court the case against Domenico Benenato di Vincentii, who was being prosecuted for adultery and publicly living earlier with Filippa Franchina, wife of Fanalis.[8]
  4. Giovanni Angelo Benenato, bap. 2 8bre (Oct.) 1645; m. Giovanna Panitieri.
  5. Diego Benenato, bap. 9 June 1648; sponsor was Mariano Carrao. He was bur. Lipari, 20 Sept. 1729, ae. 85 [sic]. Didacus Benenati, son of Vincenzo Beninati and Bunda Cafarella, m. Lipari, 3 April 1678, by Reverendo Sacerdote Don Giovanni Costa and Reverendo Don Placido Costa, Margarita Panitieri, dau. of Pietro Panitieri and Angela Mazzola. The witnesses were Giovanni Benenati, Giuseppe di Luca, and Geronimo Innaro.
