Biography

Ann was born about 1846. She passed away in 1895.[1]

Her obituary was published in The St. John's Daily News on 21 Jan 1895 in St. John's, , Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.¹ Gushue-On the 20th inst., after a long and painful illness, Ann, beloved wife of Francis Gushue, aged 49 years, leaving three daughters and three sons to mourn their sad loss. Funeral to-morrow Tuesday, at 2:30 p.m. from her late residence 67 Gower Street. R.I.P. Boston Papers please copy.[2]

She had an estate probated on 1 May 1900 in St. John's, Newfoundland. Will of Ann Gushue from Newfoundland will books volume 6 pages 590-591 probate year 1900 Last will and Testament of Ann Gushue of St. John's Widow deceased This is the last will and Testament of me Ann Gushue of St. John's in the Island of Newfoundland Married woman. First. I direct that my funeral and Testamentary expenses shall be first paid out of my general estate. Second. I give devise and bequeath to my beloved husband Frank Gushue the dwelling house owned by me situate on Gower Street in the Town of St. John's together with all and singular the household goods furniture and effects of every description therein contained To Hold the same to him during the term of his natural life, and after his decease I will and bequeath the said Dwelling house, household goods, furniture and effects to my three daughters, namely Mary Joseph, Annie and Agnes Mary or the survivor or survivors of them to the their separate and absolute estate in equal proportions free from the control of any present or future husband or husbands. Third. It is my desire that the said dwelling house shall not be disposed of or in any way encumbered, but that the same shall remain for the benefit of my said daughters after the decease of my said husband. Fourth. I hereby appoint my said husband Frank Gushue to be the sole executor of this my will, and hereby revoke all former wills and Testamentary writings by me at any time heretofore made and declare this to be my true last will and Testament. Dated at St. John's this 27th day of October in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and ninety-four. (Sgd) Ann Gushue. Signed published and declared by the said Testatrix as and for her last will and Testament in the presence of us who in her presence and the presence of each other all present at the same time and at her request have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses on the day and in the year aforewritten.
