Biography

Adelaide (Cannell) Halsey was born in Norfolk, England.
Adelaide (registered as "Adalien") was born in 1842[1] in Cossey (or Costessey), Norfolk, England. She was the daughter of George Cannell and Ann Maria Blyth, who married in 1841.[2]

Adelaide's mother died in 1849;[3] Adelaide's father married Adelaide's aunt Jane (which was illegal) in 1850.[4] Adelaide's father and stepmother lived in Costessey in 1851,[5] when Adelaide lived in Drayton, Norfolk, with her maternal grandparents, Matthew and Elizabeth Blyth.[6]

At the time of the 1861 census Adelaide worked as a domestic servant for the Beatley family in Norwich, Norfolk.[7] By 1871 she worked in Lambeth, Surrey.[8]

In 1875 Adelaide married John Halsey in Caterham, Surrey.[9][10] John was a domestic gardener and the family lived in Caterham.[11][12][13] He had retired by 1911.[14]

John died in 1921 at the age of 84.[15] Adelaide died in 1936 at the age of 94.[16]
