Biography

Antonio Cardaropoli is born 3 March 1906[1][2] in Springfield, MA, the son of Francesco Cardaropoli and Angiolina Albano, of 18 Union St. His father is a laborer.[3]

In the 1930 federal census of Springfield, Frank Cardaropoli owns his home at 27 Loring St., worth $7,000. Frank is 60 and married at age 27. His wife, Angelina, is 57 and married at 24. Their children at home are Antonio, 24, Jennie, 21, Albert, 19, Patsy (son), 17, Dollie, 15, and Frank, 11. Also living with them is Blanche, 8, Frank’s granddaughter. Frank and his wife were born in Italy. They both immigrated in 1897. Their children were born in MA. Blanche was born in NY: her father was born in MA and her mother in PA. Frank is a laborer for the streets department. Antonio, Albert, and Patsy are mixers in a baker shop. Jennie is a clerk in a baker shop. Dollie is a coffee girl in a restaurant.

There are other Cardaropoli families on the same street. One neighbor, Antonio Cardaropoli, who is married to Pasqualina, owns a bakery. Another neighbor, John Cardaropoli, works as a truck driver for a bakery. Several of Frank and Angelina Cardaropoli’s children work in a bakery shop.[4]

Antonio is also known as Anthony F.

Anthony is married to Margaret Merola.[5][6][7]

Anthony and Margaret have three daughters: Pat, Carol, and Joan.[5][7]

Anthony and Margaret own and operate Tony's Variety Store. Anthony's obituary gives its location on Pomona Street in Springfield.[7] According to her obituary, Margaret is an owner-operator from 1940-54.[5] Anthony's obituary reports that he owned the store from 1954-1966.

It's reported in the Springfield Union on 8 October 1959 that three men rob Anthony in his store.

In 1962, Anthony Cardaropoli of 15 Pomona St is cited for violation of Lord’s Day, pleads nolo contendere, and is fined $15.[8]

Anthony Cardaropoli, 56 (b. 1909), of 44 Fountain St., is involved in an auto accident.[9]

Anthony F. Cardaropoli, whose birthday is a match for Antonio, dies 31 March 1993 in Springfield, MA. He is 87.[1][2] He is buried in St. Michaels Cemetery in Springfield.[6][7]

Margaret dies 19 February 1995.[5] She is buried with Anthony.[6]

In their obituaries, Anthony and Margarets' daughters' married names and residences are given: Pac C. Gilberti of Westfield, Carol T. Rezzani of Westfield, and Joan L. Colson of Springfield.[5][7]

Anthony and Margaret's obituaries name their last address, 44 Fountain Street in Springfield.[5] This is the address of a duplex the couple once owned. It is transferred for $0 before their deaths, to Pasqualina & Carol Gilberti, on 5 December 1990.[10] Pasqualina is most likely Pat; her married name is Gilberti.
