Biography
Anna Kress was born in April of 1875, either in New York or Connecticut, to George H. Kress and Sarah Ann Belden. She lived at Cromwell, Connecticut when the 1880 census was taken with her parents and older sister Sarah Kress and younger sister Thersia Kress. Her mother died in March of 1881 during childbirth and her estate of just over $105 was awarded to her daughters, Sarah and Anna.
Apparently George was unwilling or unable to care for his two young daughters. From the Fremont County GenWeb comes the information that she came to Iowa on the Orphan Train. In 1900 she was listed on the census as an adopted daughter of John and Nancy Carter in Sidney.
In 1902 she was married to Albert Otte.
The next record found for her sister, Sarah Ann Kress, was a marriage record to William L. Mabbitt in Mills County, Iowa. Sarah Kress Mabbit is also listed on Find a Grave. She was born November 12, 1873, and died September 21, 1931. She was buried at Silver City Cemetery in Mills County, Iowa.
