Biography
William was born in 1740.[1] William, was the first Cash on Nantucket. He was a produce merchant and keeper of the Newtown Gate, a toll gate in the fence that kept the island's flock of sheep from entering town. [2] His son William was a whaling captain, killed by a whale on his first voyage in 1706[3]
