Brick Wall Case Studies

John Daniel Notestine Brick Wall
John Daniel Notestine b. 1785? John Daniel Notestine's parents are unknown and no additional information has been discovered to trace ancestors.

Who Is Jonas' Brother?
From the book written by James Wallace, 1930, WALLACE-BRUCE CLOSELY RELATED FAMILIES, on page 150, it was stated that a brother came over from Germany along with Jonas, in 1772. No discovery of this other brother has been made to date.
UPDATE: This recollection from Lucy Lilian Notestein was more than likely incorrect and the "two brothers" referred to were probably believed to have been Jonas and Hans Michael, but they each arrived in Pennsylvania in different decades. Both were also born in different areas of Germany, so they were not brothers. It was also mentioned that the immigrant ancestor was great grandfather to Isaac Notestine. Jonas was actually the grandfather of Isaac, not the great grandfather.

Where Does Family Intersect?
Flora and S.E. Notestine are said to be cousins in this newspaper article, but no connection found yet. In fact, with information we have today, Flora descends from Jonas Nothstein, and S.E. Notestine descends from Hans Michael. Perhaps a family connection goes back to Germany, Or perhaps Flora's great grandfather Jacob Notestine is actually descended from Hans Michael Nothstein and not Jonas Nothstein.
UPDATE: One possible explanation for the supposed family relation is a confusion of the common family member between the two. The newspaper article mentions that Mrs. S.E. Notestine has a brother who lives in the same town as Flora Notestine, her father is George W Notestine. S.E. Notestine has an uncle named George W Notestine. These are two different men, however. This information would have surely been discovered after their visit with each other. On the other hand, perhaps their cousin relationship goes back further in time.
