Biography

Susanne Cavelier (aka Cavellier) was born in Oise, Picardie, France on June 3, 1661. She was the daughter of Antoine and Susanne Marie Cavelier.

Susanne was the 2nd wife of Abraham De Huele (aka De Huelle). Susanne and Abraham married about 1688, their first child being born in 1689 and Abraham De Huele's 1st wife, Marie, having been buried in 1687.

Susanne and Abraham are recorded as parents of five children (per their birth registries) including: Abraham bp. October 27, 1689; Susanne b. bp. March 20, 1691; Marthe bp. January 12, 1694; Sara Anne; and Madelaine.

In her daughter's (Sara Anne's) baptism record, Susanne's" birth name of "Cavelier" is provided also Abraham De Huelle (recorded in this record as Huelle, not Huele) is listed as Susanne's husband and father of Sara Anne.

The same is recorded in her daughter's (Madelaine's) record of baptism, except in addition Susanne's parents are also listed as Antoine Cavellier and Susanne Marie Cavelier (note two "l's" in Cavellier per registry for father's surname).

Suzanne's date and location of death are unknown and pending additional research.

Research Notes

The French Huguenots, French Protestants, who were immigrants to England from France, appeared to have up to three marriage events per couple at various churches and locations within a 3-year span of time. The same is found with baptisms, i.e. several baptisms occur for the same child, but which do take place in different churches, same as with marriages, sometimes repeating over a 5-year period of time.

Marthe, daughter of Susanne and Abraham, was baptised in January 1694.

Sara Anne was baptised in September 1695 and the record states her parents are Abraham Dehuélle and Susanne Cavelier. Madeleine was baptised in 1697 and the baptism entry for Madeleine actually states that her parents are Abraham De huélle and his wife, Susanne.

It is, therefore, unlikely that Susanne Cavelier died in 1693 and that the children's father remarried to Anne Pele in 1694.

It is likely, however, that the Abraham Dehuelle who married Anne Le Pelé is not the Abraham Dehuelle who was married to Susanne Cavelier and fathered Abraham, Susanne, Marthe, Sara Anne and Madelaine. Their father is probably Abraham Dehuelle, born 1688 in Bolbec, son of Pierre De Huele and Anne Leconte. He was previously married to Marie Couillard who died 1687.

The Abraham Dehuelle who married Anne Le Pelé, 31 March 1694, is the son of Jean Dehuéle and Susanne Mollé.

Madeleine's baptism record further states that Madeleine's Godfather is Antoine Cavellier and Godmother is Susanne Marie Cavelier. They are brother and sister, whose parents are Jacques Cavelier and Marie Leduc. Antoine and Susanne Marie Cavelier are not the parents of Susanne Cavelier (Dehuele).

Thank you, David. I have reviewed sources, sorted life events, and made the revisions. Both Abraham and Suzanne's profiles have been updated. Two Abraham/s were conflated. Thank you again for your comment and your assistance.
