James Alexander Chalmers was born on 19 Dec 1860 in Albany, Albany,^[1] son of John Lauder Chalmers (1836 - 1896) and Catherine Thomson (Ireland) Chalmers (1838 - 1892).

James married Isabelle Kennedy (1863 - 1954) in 1882. Their children were:

1. Maud Lauder (Chalmers) Sloan (1883 - 1976)
2. Arthur Robert Chalmers (1885 - )
3. Walter McEwan Chalmers (1887 - 1961)
4. Florence Boyd (Chalmers) Hattersley (1889 - 1953).

James died on 6 Oct 1937 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York aged 76. He is buried in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands, New York.^[2][3]
