John Chambers was born in Indiana..

John Chambers was interred in California.

John was born 20 Feb 1834 in Montgomery, Indiana, United States.[1][2]

John, living in Crawfordsville, enlisted in the Union Army as a Sergeant in Company L, 5th Regiment, Indiana Cavalry on 16 Aug 1862 for 3 years. He was promoted to Company Quarter Master Sergeant. He mustered out 15 Sep 1865 as 1st Sergeant. [3][4] The 5th Cavalry Regiment was organized at Indianapolis, Indiana as the 90th Indiana Volunteers beginning 22 Aug 1862. During his time in the Army, the Regiment had many engagements, including the following Battles: Buffington Island, Resaca, Dallas, New Hope Church, Allatoona, and Kennesaw Mountain.[5]

John was married twice.

His first marriage was to Mary E. Maxwell (born 16 Oct 1844) on 1 Sep 1862 in Newton, Indiana. Mary passed away on 25 Apr 1883 in Marysville, Nodaway, Missouri. They had three children: William H. Chambers (born 28 Oct 1866), Winnona Grace Chambers (born 16 Sep 1868) and Mary E. Chambers (born 13 Oct 1871).[6][7]

His second marriage was to Margaret E Henderson (1847 - 1928) on 6 Jan 1884 in Nodaway, Missouri. This was Margaret's first mariage.[8][9]

John was a grain dealer.[2]

He passed away 22 Oct 1911 in Pasadena, Los Angeles, California, United States and is buried in Mountain View Cemetery and Mausoleum in Altadena, California.[1][2][10]

John was survived by his widow, son W.H. Chambers, and daughter Mrs. W. O. Howe.[2]
