Ruth (Cherry) Spence was born in Yorkshire, England.
Ruth was baptised in 1824 in Garton on the Wolds, Yorkshire, England. She was the daughter of Robert and Tamar Cherry.[1]

At the time of the 1841 census Ruth worked as a servant for the Hardy family at the Mill in Sledmere, Yorkshire.[2] In August 1841 Ruth married Henry Spence in Sledmere. He was another of the Hardy family's employees.[3][4]

Ruth died in 1849 at the age of 24[5] and was buried in Garton.[6]
