Biography

Cephas was a Friend (Quaker)

Cephas, son of Cephas Child, was born in 1727. He was first married 16 February (April?) 1751 to Priscilla Naylor (b. 1730; daughter of Joseph Naylor, Naylor-535), and Cephas and Priscilla had 9 children. Much later (24 March 1774) he married his second wife, Mary Cadwallader.

On 15 October 1761, in a newspaper posting (in the Philadelphia Gazette) by John Kinman of Plumstead, John asks that his sister Sarah contact him through Cephas Child of Plumstead (that would be Cephas Jr., because Cephas Sr. had died several years earlier). John Kinman (Kinman-103) would soon after (in May 1762) be married to Margaret Smith, whose mother Cassandra Child (Childs-1163) was a cousin of Cephas.

Cephas Child who was married to Priscilla, and father of her children born between 1751 and 1762 departed this life the 14th of 7th Mo 1815.[1]
