He died in 1916 at Cudgee.
An old pioneer of the district passed away in the person of Mr. George Chislett, sen., a highly respected resident, at the advanced age of 89 years, (writes our Allansford correspondent). The deceased came to Australia in the early fifties in the ship, "Black Eagle"and landed at Geelong. At that time the whole of the district was an immense forest, and there were not many settlers about. He first went to Ballarat, being attracted by the great gold rush. He settled in the Mt. Elephant district, and drove the cows on the station, to make them quiet, and milk them for the owner (Mr. Clark) and sold the milk on the diggings.
After that he made several trips to the Western District, and often went down to Curdie's River to Mr. Dance's to purchase cattle, and with asssistance of the blacks, took them up to Ballarat and sold them. Later he travelled to Mepunga and district, buying up dairy produce and took it to Ballarat. It was on one of these many trips that he became acquainted with Mr. Chas. Stonehouse, and purchased his property, known as "Rosebank," and resided there for over 52 years. He was a very successful farmer, and acquired much property. His wife predeceased him by three years, and he leaves a grown-up family of six sons and four daughters. The remains were interred in the Warrnambool Cemetery.[3]
