BARNETT, DOROTHY "DOT" ELIZABETH, 87, passed away peacefully January 5, 2011 after a brief illness. Born on July 16, 1923 in Dallas, Dot resided here most of her life.
She was preceded by her husband, Albert Luther "Jack" Barnett; her parents, Bruce and Elizabeth Clardy; and her brother, Robert Clardy.
Dot graduated from Highland Park High School, attended Lyndenwood College in Missouri and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. Dot was active in the community and in her children's activities, serving as PTA president and on numerous charity boards. She was part of the founding families of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. She was a fun-loving person who was a sports fanatic and avid bridge and poker player. Dot was a winner until the last game.
Dot was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and is survived by her three children, Steve Barnett and wife Candice Chandler, Mike Barnett and wife Susie, and Barbara Barnett Stevenson; and by her five grandchildren, Collin Stevenson and wife Angie and daughter Marlo, Katie Stevenson, Bryan Barnett, Megan Barnett Filgo and husband Jonathan and son Royal, and Michael Barnett and wife Jessica. She was loved by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at Restland Wildwood Chapel on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salesmanship Club of Dallas or to Camp Grady Spruce YMCA.

Miss Dorothy Elizabeth Clardy and Lt. Albert Luther Barnett Jr. were married at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Highland Baptist Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce C. Clardy of Washington D.C., and Lieutenant Barnett Jr. is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Luther Barnett, 5017 Gaston.
Dr. R. Alton Reed, pastor of the Park Cities Baptist Church, performed the ceremony. The music was given by Hugh Waddill, organist, and Miss Laura Jane Tidwell, vocalist.
Mr. Clardy gave his daughter in marriage. She wore a gown of white marquisette over satin designed with a sweetheart neckline and short lace sleeve. Bands of Chantilly formed panels in the shirred bodice trimmed with tiny satin bows and the full hooped skirt extended into a graceful grain. She wore marquisette mitts and her fingertip veil of illusion fell in circular tiers from a half hat of illusion with clusters of small satin bows at the side. She carried a white Bible topped with a white orchid.
Miss Antinette Barnett, sister of the bridegroom, was maid of honor and the bridesmaids were Miss Jane Ballew and Miss Sarah Coon of Tulsa, Okla.
Pfc. Charles Robert Clardy, brother of the bride, was best man. Ushers were Lt. Wade Brewster and Lt. Harry Gump.
A reception was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam McCorkle, 4436 Beverly. Miss Louise Davis presided at the tiered cake and Miss Elise Meletio had charge of the bride's book.
After a wedding trip to Monterrey, Mexico, Lieutenant and Mrs. Barnett will reside if Alliance, Neb. For traveling Mrs. Barnett selected a powder-blue suit with navy accessories.
The bride was graduated from Highland Park High School and attended Lindenwood College and the University of Texas. She is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Lieutenant Barnett attended Crozier Technical High School and SMU. He is a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ned Beavers, Mrs. W. B. Beavers, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Barnett and Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Barnett, Hillsboro, and A. D. Hamilton of Lubbock.
