In 1861 Edward F Clarke (age 48, Lieut Royal N) lived at Kingsgate Road in St Peter with his wife Julia C (30) and servant Emma Linis (22, Housemaid).[3]
In 1871 Edward F Clarke (age 57, Retired Commander Royal Navy) lived at 1 Kings Gate in Thanet with his wife Julia C (39) and three children: Helen L (8), Ada C (6), and Henry J L (5), as well as two servants: Rebecca Fisher (40, Nurse) and Harriet Wren (28, Cook).[4]
In 1881 Edward F Clarke (age 67, Commander Royal Navy) lived in St Peter with his wife Julia E (49), daughter Helen L (18), and two servants: Fanny Rolfe (21, Cook) and Caroline Saunders (24).[5] His son Henry J L (15, Naval Cadet) was abroad with the Navy, and daughter Ada (16, Scholar) was at boarding school in Sussex.
In 1891 Edward F Clarke (age 78, Retired Commander Royal Navy) lived at St Peters Road in St Peters with his wife Julia C (77[59]), daughter Ada C (25), and two servants: Frederick Gretton (28, Butler & Domestic Servant) and Alice Gretton (22, Cook Domestic).[6]
Edward F Clarke passed away on 24 Feb 1898, aged 86 years. His death was registered in Thanet in the first quarter of the year.[7] "CLARKE Edward Francis of Chedworth St. Peter's Kent captain in the Royal Navy died 24 February 1898 Probate London 24 March to Julia Courtenay Clarke widow Effects £949 15s. 3d."[8] He was buried at St Peter in Thanet on 28 Feb 1898.[9]
