Death

Rachel Greer died in 1911 at Prahran at the age of 75. Parents listed on the death index as Jane Hunter and Samuel Clarke.[1] Obituary 16 Sep 1911: Mrs Rachel Ann Greer, a very old resident of Prahan, and a colonist of 58 years, died at her residence, St Edmonds Road, on Monday last. Mrs Greer was the wife of the late ex Sergeant Greer, who was stationed in Prahan for many years. She was born at Newton-Hamilton, Armagh Bragne, Ireland, and arrived in Victoria in 1853 when a girl. She accompanied her brother mr Daniel Clarke, of Benalla, who came out to Australia to take up the position of head teacher of the denominational school at Carisbrook, Victoria. Mrs Greer [then miss Clarke] had just finished her studies at Dublin Training College, and on her arrival in Victoria at 17 years of age, she was appointed as assistant to her brother at the Carisbrook school.. The late Mrs Greer, who was of a vey kindly disposition and had very many friends, leaves a grown up family of seven - 4 sons and three daughters. She was married in 1862 at East Melbourne. The funeral took place on Tuesday, at the Brighton cemetery, with a large number of floral wreaths being forwarded.[2]

Funeral and Burial GREER. —The 'Friends of the late Mrs. RACHEL ANN GREER are respectfully informed that her remains will be interred in the Brighton Cemetery. The funeral will leave 29 St. Edmonds-road, Prahran, THIS (DAY (Tuesday), 12th September, at 2.30 p.m. A. J, JIAYIBOLILD, Undertaker, [3]
