Biography

He was the eldest son.

William had 7 siblings they were:

  1. Anne Emily Fanny Clifton (1847 - 1894)
  2. Louisa Clifton (1850 - 1927)
  3. Ethel (Clifton) Hassell (1857 - 1933)
  4. Ada Marian (Clifton) Innes (1861 - 1898)
  5. Gervase Clifton (1863 - 1932)
  6. Francis Bingham Clifton (1868 - 1870)
  7. Robert Clifton (1870 - 1870)

He came to Western Australia in February 1861 with his father and siblings. He attended Bishop Hale's school in Perth and then went to Church of England Grammar School in Sydney.

In 1866 he obtained a clerkship with the London Chartered Bank in Melbourne.

He returned to Albany in 1873 and then went to New Zealand and worked for the Bank of New Zealand.

On 27/6/1878 in Auckland New Zealand he married Emma Martley Willcocks. He was survived by one son and seven daughters.

In 1887 he returned to Western Australia and started business as a commission agent and in the mining industry. He became involved in the goldmining industry and represented Alexander Forrest in many companies.

William died in 1907 at the age of 58, at his home in South Perth City, Western Australia, Australia.

He is buried in Karrakatta Cemetery.
