Research Notes
Note: Over 20 sources are available for him at[1] and only one refers to him as "Littleton James Cluff" while the rest just list "James" - He is listed with his parents on the 1850 Census[2]
First Marriage
James was married twice. He was first married to Elizabeth Daisey (daughter of Parker and Elizabeth Daisey) on February 9, 1860.[3] The couple are listed together on both: the 1870 Census[4] and the 1880 Census. [5] It is believed that they had at least four children before her death sometime between 1880-1881; but two children died at very young ages.
Second Marriage
On December 17, 1881 he was remarried to Nancy E. Wharton and the record indicates that he was forty and widowed and she was sixteen.[15] It is believed that they also had at least four children but their first child died in infancy. They are listed together with three of their children on the 1900 Census.[16]
