Biography

William Cocker was born to John & Ellen Cocker and baptised on the 11th July 1819 at Walton le dale near Preston in Lancashire

He was a bachelor when he married Charlotte Cottam declared as a spinster although previously married on the 27th March 1851 at the parish church of St Mary Barton upon Irwell (although the certificate notes that her father was William Barlow). He signed the certificate William Cocker and she signed Charlotte Cottam. The witnesses were Joshua Gregory (his employer) & Margaret Cottam.

Later in 1851 with is name spelt Cochar he was aged 31 and a "Cotton Breaver inn servant" and they were living together at his place of work with Inn Keeper Joshua Gregory and his family at Street Gate, Little Hulton, Bolton.

By 1861 he was 42 and working as a Brewer and they were living with six children at Little Hulton Brewery, Street Gate, Little Hulton, Bolton

By 1871 shown as 50 he had moved the family now with eight children to Streetgate in Little Hulton near Bolton

In 1881 at 61 he was described as an Ale Brewer employing three men and he and his wife had five children still at home together with a Sarah J Bagguley a niece age 2 at 351, Manchester Rd East, Little Hulton, Bolton,

Ten years later 1891 he is aged 72 and they were still in the same premises but with just two children at home Henry Cocker b1865, Martha J Cocker b 1867 together with a granddaughter Charlotte S Cocker aged 7.

In 1892 he died at the age of 71 and as buried on the 24th November of that year at Little Hulton.
