Rexall Blaine Coffindaffer was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on January 2,1921 to George Coffindaffer and Flossie Nicholas. He was the second of five children and the first son born to the couple.
Rexall was initially raised in Union, West Virginia. But by 1924, the family had relocated to Breckenridge, Texas, presumably due to his father's tuberculosis. By 1927, the family had moved to Roswell, New Mexico. His father died in 1934.
In Silver City, New Mexico on January 16, 1941, Rexall enlisted in the Army National Guard for a three year enlistment period with the Coast Artillery Corps. He went into service as a Private First Class with the U.S. Army 200th Coast Artillery Regiment, an anti aircraft regiment. He served on Bataan peninsula and when the Americans surrendered, he was taken prisoner.
Rexall died as a prisoner of war in Cabanaturan, Philippines. He was 21 years old. He is buried in Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in Manilla, Philippines.
