Biography

Viola Mae Collins was born 20 October 1877 in Delaware, USA. She was the daughter of Sharp Collins and Matilda Lowe. Her older siblings were:

1880s

In 1880, Viola M Collins (1) lived in Gumborough, Sussex County, Delaware with her father Joseph S (43), mother Matilda J (41), older siblings James E G (20), Joshua T (16), Eliza J (14), Minnie C (8), Joseph W (6), Charles H (4), and Mr Charles Massey (17). [1]

In 1880, her sister Calis Collins died in Delaware. In 1880, her sister Emma Collins died.

On 2 Sep 1881, her sister Rachel Ella Collins was born in Delaware.

On 6 Apr 1886, her brother Joshua T Collins married Irene W Short in Tent, New Castle County, Delaware. Irene was the daughter of Wingate and Priscilla Phillips Short.

On 30 Dec 1886 (or 4 Jan 1887), her sister Minnie C Collins married Joseph Sharp Short in Delaware.

1890s

On 4 May 1891, her brother James E G Collins (31) died in Bridgeville, Sussex County, Delaware.

On 5 Sep 1896, Viola Collins married Edgar W Jefferson in New Castle County, Delaware. Edgar had been born in Delaware. [2] [3]

On 20 Oct 1897, her daughter Mary Madeline Jefferson was born in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware. Mary was white. [4] [5]

On 25 Aug 1898, her sister Rachel E Collins married Charles Andrew Conaway (21) in Sussex County. Charles was born 21 Jul 1877 in Georgetown and the son of Isaac P and Sarah LeGates Conaway.

On 1 Mar 1899, her brother Charles married Fannie Burton Short in Tent, New Castle County, Delaware.

1900s

In 1900, Her brother Joshua T Collins (37) lived in Georgetown hundred, Georgetown town, Sussex county with his wife Irene W (33) and daughter Mary P (13). Her sister Minnie C Short (29), brother Charles H Collins (24), and sister Ella Conaway (20) lived in Georgetown hundred with their families.

On 2 Apr 1904, her sister Alice A Massey (43) died in Sussex County.

On 28 Feb 1905, her father Joseph Collins (67) died in Georgetown.

In 1907, her sister-in-law Irene Collins (~39) died.

In 1908, her brother Joshua Collins married Mae E Spicer. Mary was widowed with a daughter Jennie Tomlinson Spicer and was the daughter of Benjamin T and Maggie Hopkins Pettyjohn.

1910s

In 1910, Viola M Jefferson (32) lived in Sussex County with her husband Edgar W (33), daughter Mary M (12), and mother-in-law Mary E (58). [6] Her brother Joshua T Collins (47) lived in Jackson, Amelia County, Virginia. Her sister Minnie C Short (39), brother Charles H Collins (35), and sister Rachel E Conaway (29) lived in Sussex County with their families.

On 3 Nov 1915, her daughter Mary M Jefferson (18) married Norman F Short (18) in Georgetown, Sussex County. Norman was the son of HOrace G and Annie Lynch Short. [7]

1920s

In Jan 1920, Viola M Jefferson (42) lived in Sussex County with her husband Edgar W (42) and mother-in-law Mary E (68). [8] Her brother Joshua T Collins (56) lived at Georgetown and Milford road in Sussex County. Her brother Charles H Collins (44) lived on Maple Street in Marcus Hook Borough, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Her sister Rachel E Conaway (39) lived on Spruce Street in Marcus Hook PA.

On 3 Mar 1927, her mother Matilda Collins (87) died.

1930s

In Apr 1930, Viola Jefferson (52) lived in Sussex County with her husband Edgar W (53). [9] Her brother Joshua T Collins (66) lived on Old Milford Rd in Sussex County. Her sister Minnie C Short (59) lived in Sussex county. Her brother Charles H Collins (54) lived on Linwood Park in Upper Chichester, Delaware County, PA. Her sister Rachel Conaway (49) lived in Chester, Delaware County, PA.

On 28 Jan 1935, her sister Eliza died in Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

In Apr 1935, she lived in Sussex County. [10] Her sister Ella Conoway lived in Chester.

In Sep 1939, her sister-in-law Fannie Collins died.

On 11 Nov 1939, her brother-in-law Joseph S Short (74y 7m 14d) died near Ellendale, Cedar Creek hundred, Sussex from apoplexy, complete paralysis of left side of body and left leg due to arteriosclerosis. He was married to Minnie C Short, born 18 Mar 1865, worked as a farmer, born in Delaware, son of Wingate and Pricilla Phillips Short. Mrs Minnie C Short of Ellendale was the information of his death. John Carey provided funeral services and he was buried November 14th.

1940s

In 1940, Viola M Jefferson (62) lived in Sussex County with her husband Edgar (62). [10] Her sister Minnie C Short (69) lived in Ellendale PA. Her brother Charles H Collins (64) lived in Upper Chichester Township PA. Her sister Ella Conoway (59) lived in Chester PA.

On 11 Mar 1940, her brother Joshua T Collins (76y 4m 10d) died in Georgetown from angina pectoris. He was white, married to May Ellen Pettyjohn, worked as a merchant, and the son of Sharp Collins and Matilda Truitt. The informant of his death was his wife Mrs Mae Collins. He was buried at Union Cemetery in Georgetown.

In 1942, her brother-in-law Charles A Conaway (64) died in Delaware state.

On 1 June 1948, Viola Mae Jefferson (70) died in Georgetown. [11] [12] [13] She was buried at Union Cemetery in Georgetown. [14]
