James was born in 1866. He was the son of James Colyer and Rebecca Hastings Farrow.

In the 1871 census James (age 4) was the son of James Colyer in Lambeth, Surrey, England.[1]

In the 1881 census James (age 14), Scholar, was the son of James Colyer in Lambeth, London, Surrey, England.[2][3]

In the 1891 census James (age 24), Dental Surgeon, was the single son of James Colyer in Streatham, London, England.[4]

He married Lucy Margret Olive Anna Simpson. James's marriage was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1896 in the Camberwell district.[5] They had 3 children:

  • Evelyn Lucy Colyer 1903–1930
  • Brenda Hastings Colyer 1905–
  • Norman Frank Colyer 1909–

In the 1901 census James (age 34), Dental Surgeon, was the married head of household in Streatham, London, England.[6]

In the 1911 census James (age 44), Medicalman Purchsing Dentistry, was the married head of household in Wandsworth, London, England.[7]

He was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1916 and a Fellow of the Dental Society in 1947. He was knighted in 1920. In 1932 he became the first President of the British Society of Dental Surgeons.

Frank's daughter Evelyn Colyer married on 14 February 1930 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland.[8]

Frank was mentioned in the obituary of his daughter Evelyn Colyer, Miss or Mrs Hamish Munroe on 7 November 1930 in Yeovil, Somerset, England.[9]

His wife passed away in 1950.

James's death (age 87) was registered in 1954 in London, England.[10]
