Biography

Elsie (or Elsa) Comer was born in Indiana on 11 December 1879.^[1][2] Her parents were James W. and Sarah (Poor) Comer.^[3][2] She married Charles M. Heritage on 24 May 1899 in Anderson, Indiana.^[4] They had a daughter Nellie, born in April 1900, who died in infancy. ^[5] Their second child, Charles, was born in 1905.^[6] Elsie died of tuberculosis in Anderson on 19 March 1906, aged 26.^[2] She is buried in Maplewood Cemetery.^[7]

• There seem to have been a number of Elizabeth/Eliza/Elsie/Lizzie Comers in Indiana at this time. In particular, there was an Elizabeth Comer in Madison County with a father named James who was born in Ohio. • The headstone at Find A Grave has a birth date of 1881. The text there says September 1879. (The 1880 Census, 1900 Census, and death certificate agree on December 1879.) The text also gives her full name as Elsie Surran Comer.
• The transcription of the death certificate on Ancestry is very bad (name rendered as Elsie S. Haage, parents' and husband's name also wrong). The certificate itself is quite legible. Heritage-577 01:24, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
