Biography

Bridget was born in about 1860, possibly in the Ballyvaughan area in County Clare, Ireland, the daughter of Patrick Comyn and Mary Geoghegan. in about 1886, she married Jeremiah O'Connor. They settled in Cloonadrum near Mullagh, County Clare, where they kept a shop. They had two children together before Jeremiah died in 1899. Bridget continued to keep the shop and a public house. She remarried in 1901 to the widower Denis O'Dwyer who joined her and her two children at Cloonadrum. Bridget must have been a successful and well respected business woman in the area, for she was named a baronial director for the West and South Clare Railways in 1919. Denis died in Cragaknock, County Clare in 1944. Bridget died in 1949 and is buried in Kylebreedia Graveyard near Mullagh.

Children with Jeremiah:

  1. Mary Ellen, 1889-
  2. Thomas, 1898-1958; m. Margaret Blake,

DUBLIN PREFERRED
Application In Clare Conveyance Case
A case which had been fixed for Ennis was mentioned in the Dail Eirearm Courts (Winding-up) Commission before Commissioners J. C. Meredith (chairman), D. Crowley and St. L. Devitt.
Mr. M. J. Kenny, K.C., (instructed by Mr. Michael Killeen),, said he had an application to make in the case of McNamara v O'Dwyer which was fixed for Ennis on the 12th November. Counsel appeared for the defendant and said he would not be ready to go on that day.
The plaintiff was Margaret McNamara and the defendant Bridget O'Dwyer of Clonadrum, Mullagh, Co. Clare, and the property involved was worth at least £1,000. The proceedings at the start had been somewhat irregular--and very irregular--and it would take a long time to explain it. Neither the decree in the case had been registered, nor was there any civil bill that he could find.
Apparently the plaintiff had taken no steps to bring on the appeal, and that he (counsel) believed was the last day for entering cases for hearing by the circuit judges.
