"OBITUARY LATE MR. THOMAS CONSIDINE. The death of Mr. Thomas Considine which occurred on Saturday morning last, in Newcastle hospital, as a result of a fall from his horse a week before, was learned throughout the Seaham and Raymond Terrace districts with the greatest amount of sorrow. Most of his friends at least, whilst they believed him to be seriously injured, never anticipated such a lamentable ending to his accident, and his passing is regarded as a loss to the district as well as the heavier loss to his family. Mr. Considine was aged 65, comparatively young in his ease in physical condition, as he was active, alert and still capable of carrying out his daily duties if he desired to do so, as at any period of life. He too, was a useful resident in the fact that he took a close interest in the affairs of his district and the State, and was a willing subject in all movements that were worthwhile in the district. He was born at Balickers, and received his education at Eagleton school, in the days when Eagleton was a place of note by reason of the activity in shipbuilding there. After his school period he followed the occupation of a dairyman, and continued in that occupation up till his lamented death, though of late years he had by care, energy and good management earned a competence that enabled him to take daily duties with less irksomeness. He owned the farm on which he resided, and also purchased the old homestead farm situated a little lower down the river. His outlook on life was always cheerful and he was imbued with those characteristics which made him an earnest advocate for the duties a christian owes to his church, to the State and to the children he leaves behind him. Moral and honest teachings were part of his existence and it is no wonder that he was regarded as a good neighbour by those who were daily in touch with him. They knew his reliability and fair dealing virtues that had descended to him from his parents, and he honored the teachings they gave. During his illness he maintained a cheerful mien, though he suffered considerably, as he was almost powerless from his hips down. It is thought that the spine was injured and death was due primarily to this injury. The late Mr. Considine leaves a widow and family of five sons. Messrs. Leo, Joseph, Matthew, Cyril and Vincent, some of whom reside at home and others in the Seaham districts. The funeral on Sunday was one of the largest that has assembled at the cemetery. The local Hibernian brotherhood headed the cortege and marched from the church to the graveside. Father O'Flynn performed the obsequies, interment being made in the R. C. portion of the new cemetery."
