Biography

Major Thomas Cooksey served in the United States Civil War.

He fought at the Battle of Natural Bridge and at the Battle of Olustee under a Georgia Regiment. When at home he provided provisions for the troops.

Thomas Peter Cooksey was the son of Thomas Cooksey and Fetnah Proctor. The Cooksey and Proctor families were neighbors in Georgia. The Cookseys came to Florida when it was still a territory. Thomas Peter married Mary Isabel Bellinger. They had 11 children and a large plantation in what is now Jefferson and Madison Counties in Florida. Thomas was a major in the Confederate Army.
