His parents were Joseph Collier Cookworthy and Jane Urquhart.
He was an army officer with the 14th Dragoons and a civil servant in India.
On 28/7/1862 he sailed to Melbourne on the Laughing Water.
He became a grazier at Vasse near Busselton and his property was known as Sandilands. He employed 20 ticket of leave men between 1866 and 1885.
He arrived on board ths Ship "Chalgrove" on 6 June 1872 Fremantle Western Australia. A newspaper article listed Mr and Mrs Cook and family (2) and Joseph and Sarah Cook as passengers. Could this be him?

Brown, Joseph, youngest son of the late Joseph Collier Cookworthy, Esq., M.D. of Plymouth, to Frances G. Cookworthy, of Sandilands, step-daughter of John G. Bussell, Esq., J.P., of Cattle Chosen. The Vasse.
He and his wife were first cousins.
In 1875 he was made a J.P. and member of the Board of Education.
On 29/4/1885 he went to London on thne Natal and Cyclops and returned 21/12/1886 on tne Elderslie.
After the state was granted responsible government in 1890 he was elected the local member for the seat of Sussex in the Legislative Assembley. He was defeated in 1897.
He is buried in St Mary's Anglican Church Cemetery.
