Biography

Samuel was the son of Samuel and Mary A. Cooper. He was born in Clarendon, New York and was the sixth of eight children. The family moved from New York State to Michigan when Samuel was about 3 years old. His two younger siblings were born in Michigan.

Samuel married Margaret Jane Small, known as Maggie. They lived in several different cities, notably Eudora, Kansas and Atherton, Missouri. According to the 1880 US Census, he worked as a blacksmith in Kansas.

Samuel and Maggie had four children: Jane, Nettie, Samuel Jr. and Robert.

Samuel died in Missouri in 1897. He is buried with his wife at the Salem Cemetery, Independence, Jackson County, Missouri, USA.
