Biography

Mary (Cope) Thurlow was born in Wakefield, Yorkshire, England.

Mary was born in Wakefield, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, on January 15, 1900. ^[1] She was the daughter of Noah Cope and Susannah Oxley. She was baptized on February 21, 1900, ^[2] in Wakefield, at Holy Trinity.^[3] She was enumerated in the 1901 ^[4] and 1911 census ^[5] residing with her family in Wakefield. In 1911, the family was living at 4 Clayton's Yard, Doncaster Road, Wakefield. There were four siblings, ages thirteen to four, and her two step brothers, John Thomas and John James Hargate.

Mary married Fred Thurlow in 1923.^[6] The ceremony took place on April 2nd, in Wakefield, at St Helen, Sandal Magna. ^[7] According to the Parish Register, Mary was a twenty three year old spinster living at 15 Kimberley Street, Sandal. Her father was named as Noah Cope, "Laborer:. Fred was listed as a twenty one year old bachelor and "Warehouse Man" residing at 2 Holyoke Terrace, Horbury Bridge (a town in the City of Wakefield). His father was named as James Henry Thurlow, "Warehouse Man". It does not appear the couple had children. Mary and Fred were enumerated in the 1939 Register ^[8] residing at 2 Holyoke Terrace, Horbury, with Fred's parents. Mary's occupation, "Unpaid Domestic Duties".

Mary passed away in 1975. ^[9] Her death was registered in the third quarter in Wakefield. She was seventy five.
